Good Things Foundation’s founder and CEO, Helen Milner to retire

17/09/2025

Helen Milner OBE, founder and Chief Executive of Good Things Foundation, has announced her retirement in Spring 2026, after 15 years of dedicated service. Under Helen's leadership, Good Things Foundation has become the UK's leading digital inclusion charity, supporting over 1.3 million people in the last three years alone and building a network of over 7,000 organisations tackling social and economic inequality.

Helen’s contributions to digital inclusion have been widely recognised, including being awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen, alongside an honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of Sheffield. Recently, Helen was named by Computer Weekly as the 9th most influential person in UK tech, and the number one female founder in UK Tech.

Her leadership has significantly advanced the agenda of digital inclusion; the government has committed to deliver their Digital Inclusion Action Plan and with the rapid pace of technology development, it has never been more important to ensure that everyone can participate in a digital society.

As Helen prepares for retirement, she reflects on the organisation’s achievements and expresses her confidence in its future:

“Good Things is a wonderful organisation with a clear mission and strategy, full of dedicated and clever people. Working with our strategic partners and alongside the government, 2026 is a good time to pass the leadership into new hands.

“Digital Inclusion in the UK is now on the political, business, economic and social justice agenda, and in this pivotal moment, I am proud to see Good Things Foundation continue to lead the way, having a life-changing impact on people who need it the most.

“Once retirement does arrive, I’m looking forward to balancing my time in the UK and Australia. In the UK, continuing with my board and advisory roles, and spending more time at the beach with my grandson in Sydney. Until then, it’s business as usual. We’ve already helped millions of people excluded from the benefits the majority have enjoyed and have more to do to ensure no-one is left behind.”

Adding her thanks, Liz Williams, Chair of the Board of Trustees said:

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees and staff, I would like to thank Helen for her unwavering dedication and commendable achievements. Her leadership has significantly advanced the agenda, and her impact on social and economic inclusion has been nothing short of inspirational.

“Our mission to fix the digital divide is more critical than ever. We remain committed to working alongside our network, strategic partners, and the Government to ensure more people feel connected, confident, and safe online.”

Now though, it’s business as usual and Good Things continues its strong mission to fix the digital divide by enabling people to be connected, confident and safe online.

The charity’s Board are proud to launch this incredible opportunity to lead Good Things Foundation into the next chapter of impact, supported by Starfish Search.
