The free English-language topics focus on helping people understand how the online world works and more.

Good Things Foundation - the UK’s leading digital inclusion charity - has launched a new set of free English-language media literacy topics to support people across all levels of digital ability.

Available now through our Learn My Way platform, the resources focus on helping people understand how the online world works, and how to stay safe, informed, and well.

The first phase of the launch focuses on data privacy and digital wellbeing - covering topics such as how online personal information is tracked, how websites shape behaviour, and how to develop healthy digital habits.

This comes in response to growing concerns around online misinformation, manipulation, and data misuse.

Despite feeling confident online, many people remain unaware of how their data is collected or how to evaluate what they see on the internet.

Ofcom’s 2024 research revealed that 45% of adult internet users had seen deliberately misleading stories online in the past year, and only 37% of AI-aware users felt confident identifying AI-generated content.

Dr Emma Stone, Director of Evidence and Engagement at Good Things Foundation, said:

“In a digital world, media literacy is more than knowing how to go online — it’s about understanding how the digital world works, how to stay safe, and how to question and think critically about the information we find. The risks of misinformation and data misuse are real, especially for people already excluded from the digital world. That’s why we’ve created resources that are free, accessible, and practical for everyone.”

The new topics available - part of a new series of learning content - include:

  • Your online personal information
  • Basics of online tracking
  • Introduction to digital wellbeing
  • How websites manage your behaviour
  • Building healthy digital habits

Learn My Way’s new media literacy content is part of our ongoing mission to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, background or ability, can benefit from the opportunities of the internet.
