Good Things Foundation launches the AI Gateway: free AI learning for everyone
The bold new platform aims to close UK’s “AI confidence gap” and ensure no one is left behind.
As artificial intelligence reshapes how we live, work and connect, the UK’s leading digital inclusion charity Good Things Foundation, with support from Accenture, has launched the AI Gateway - a free, interactive learning platform designed to help demystify AI and build a better understanding of what it can do and how it can shape our online experiences.
While AI offers huge opportunities, many people feel unsure or even fearful about this fast-moving technology.
Good Things Foundation warns that without urgent action, the lack of understanding to navigate AI safely and confidently risks leaving people feeling fearful, disempowered, and distrustful of using online services more generally - pushing people away from essential services such as online banking, online public services and digital health services.
What makes the AI Gateway different?
The AI Gateway has been designed as a truly inclusive first step:
- Free, open and accessible – no paywalls, no lengthy sign-up, no jargon
- Bitesize, interactive activities - complex ideas explained simply and engagingly
- Confident and responsible – not just how to use Generative AI, but how to judge when to use it - and when not to
- Built with communities – shaped through consultation with the National Digital Inclusion Network.
Mary Booth, Digital Services Manager at Good Things Foundation, said:
“The AI Gateway has been carefully designed to be a supportive first step, avoiding barriers for people who are often excluded from digital opportunities. Unlike many online courses, it is completely free, immediately accessible, and built on the principle of simplicity - no lengthy sign-up, no confusing technical language. It offers short, interactive resources and activities that explain complex ideas in simple, engaging ways. This approach makes the learning accessible to people who have limited digital confidence, or a low level of understanding of AI. We’re giving people the confidence to take their first steps with AI, ensuring no one is left behind.”
A global movement for digital inclusion
The AI Gateway is part of a growing global effort to ensure the benefits of AI are shared fairly.
Good Things Foundation says the future of digital inclusion depends on building trust and confidence with AI – and making sure people at every level of digital skill are supported, not excluded.
That’s why Good Things is calling on government to lead with a vision for a digitally included UK in the age of AI, embedding digital inclusion across every department and across all missions, and ensuring public services are available to all.
It believes that only by putting trust and inclusion at the heart of the UK’s AI Action Plan - and officially connecting it to the Digital Inclusion Action Plan - can we make sure no one is left behind.
