The National Device Bank is powered by Good Things Foundation. It provides laptops, mobile phones and tablets to individuals who may not have access to a device.
The National Device Bank was originally created in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, when the internet became a lifeline to stay connected with loved ones. We worked in collaboration with FutureDotNow and the National Digital Inclusion Network to distribute devices to those who didn’t have access to their own.
The pandemic permanently changed the way our society relies on the digital connection, and still 1.6 million people don't have access to a smartphone, tablet or laptop. So the National Device Bank has evolved and remained a permanent fixture in our digital inclusion support.
We’ve distributed devices to communities across the UK, supporting over 28,000 digitally excluded people since 2022. This is thanks to our exclusive tech partner, Reconome and the many public and private sector organisations that contribute IT assets for digital inclusion benefit.
Looking to implement an IT reuse programme?
Through our exclusive tech partnership with Reconome we enable public and private sector organisations to incorporate IT Reuse for Good social value and impact within their IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) process.
Looking for a device for yourself or a loved one?
We don't currently provide devices directly to people, we work with thousands of local organisations offering the National Device Bank across the UK. You may wish to contact one of these organisations to see if they have any available.
The incredible impact of the National Device Bank
Over 80 organisations have contributed tech.
Over 18,000 people have received a device.
91% of device recipients feel happier, healthier and/or better off.
Nearly 115,000kg of electronic waste has been reused instead of disposed.
How does the National Device Bank work?
- Our exclusive tech partner Reconome collaborates with public and private sector organisations to grow a bank of laptops, tablets and smartphones
- Members of the National Digital Inclusion Network, which is a network of community hubs helping people use or access the internet locally, can apply for devices once a quarter.
- We distribute devices from the ‘bank’ to these community hubs across the UK, who gift the free devices to people who lack access to a suitable one.
How to get refurbished devices as a community organisation
If you’re an organisation wanting devices for people in your community, you need to be part of the National Digital Inclusion Network.
How to get a refurbished device for yourself
At the moment, we’re not able to provide devices to people directly.
You may wish to contact one of the friendly local community organisation to check if they have used or plan to use the National Device Bank. As demand for devices is high, we can't guarantee that you will be able to get a device from a hub.
