The future looks bright for Joseph thanks to the BT Skills for Tomorrow programme

Joseph, 22 from Belfast has used new digital skills gained through the BT Skills for Tomorrow programme to secure a part time job.

Despite being confident using social media and playing games online, Joseph lacked the digital skills needed to secure employment. After receiving positive feedback about Skills For Tomorrow from a friend, Joseph enrolled on the online programme run by Graffiti Recruitment, one of Good Things Foundation’s community partners.

The BT Skills for Tomorrow programme uses the Learn My Way website to offer courses on how to create a CV, applying for jobs online and advice on interview techniques. Completing the online programme has given Joseph the confidence to take that next step to apply for jobs online and navigate the internet safely and securely.

Joseph said: “With my new digital skills I managed to secure a new part time job immediately but I’m now down to the interview stages with two other organisations – Northern Ireland Fire Service and the Irish Army. I never thought I would be able to have a job like that as it was always just a dream, but completing these courses has improved my confidence and raised my ambitions.”

Joseph is also among 30 Digital Champions working with Cliftonville Community Regeneration Forum, passing on the digital skills he has acquired to others in the community. Graffiti Recruitment has helped more than 70 people into employment and trained 120 Digital Champions to enable the wider community to get online during the pandemic.

Joseph is optimistic about the future. He tells us: “I want to keep learning and help other people in my family and community and try and secure a role as a fire officer or in the Army.”
