Census Support Service

Good Things Foundation has been contracted by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to support the delivery of the next Census in England and Wales.

We’ve got an exciting opportunity for partners to apply for funding to support the delivery of the 2021 census.

We’re working with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to build a network of Census Support Centres who can support people to complete the census, ensuring everyone has the chance to complete the census.

The census takes place every 10 years in the UK - and the next one is due to take place in March 2021. It’s a compulsory survey that gives the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. The information collected from the census helps inform local authorities and government about demands for vital public services such as school places, hospital and GP services and social care provision.

In 2021 the census will be ‘digital first’ and Good Things Foundation will provide support to ensure those without skills or access can participate.

We’re looking for organisations who can deliver support to people wishing to complete the census online between March and May 2021. You’ll be required to deliver the service across a set amount of hours each week with the possibility of additional delivery covering evenings, weekends and the census weekend. Census Support Centres will offer face to face support to those who need it, or provide remote support, in areas where COVID-19 restrictions limit the access or availability of a face to face service.

The application form will remain open over the Christmas period. Any applications received by 4th January will be assessed and notifications sent out by the 15th January. As this is the final stage of recruitment for the Census Support Service, applications can only be accepted in the areas shown in the delivery locations list below.
